Britney Spears 'Very Hands-On' For Femme Fatale, Rodney Jerkins Says

Britney Spears is a month away from the release of Femme Fatale, and nearly every day, she's teasing fans with samples of some of the songs on the album, including the latest, her song with will.i.am, "The Big Fat Bass." Now, longtime collaborator Rodney Jerkins is opening up about hitting the studio with Spears.
"Britney's always great to work with. I've worked with Britney for 12, 13 years now," he told MTV News. "It's always great to work with someone when you work with someone time and time again; it's always great, and it always gets better. And just to see her evolve as an artist, it's an amazing, amazing thing."
Jerkins worked with Spears in the past on "Overprotected (Darkchild Remix)" and "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" in the early 2000s, as well as her leaked version of Lady Gaga's "Telephone," when she was recording Circus.
This time around, he said Spears knows exactly what she wants musically on the album. "She was very hands-on. She had a lot of ideas for me," he said. "She's great. She gets it. She is a top-notch veteran pro at this now."
She might be getting some help from Jerkins, but Dr. Luke and Max Martin are executive-producing the album, and Jerkins had nothing but the best to say about the production team. "I never spoke to them, [but] those guys are just great, and the stuff that they've been doing is just really, really great stuff," he said. "I'm sure with their hands on it, it's great."
Spears herself has described the album as "moody, edgy pop with A LOT of energy," hinting that many of the songs will be uptempo, and Jerkins noted that the songs he's been writing for her have certainly fit that label. "I know the songs that I do are uptempo," he said. "The stuff I've done, I think, will kind of shock people. I got a chance to go out my box a little bit too. She's great. Britney's just awesome."

Trent Reznor was left 'stunned' by his Oscar win last night

Trent Reznor was left "stunned" by his Oscar win last night (27.02.11).
The former Nine Inch Nails frontman and composer Atticus Ross picked up Best Original Score for their soundtrack to 'The Social Network', with Trent describing the experience as "humbling and flattering".

In his acceptance speech the industrial rocker said: "Wow. Is this really happening? When we finished, we were very proud of our work and happy to just be involved in this film, and to be standing up here in this company is humbling and flattering beyond words."

After collecting the trophy, Trent told how director David Fincher had "bugged" the pair to compose the score for the film, which tells the story of the founding of internet site Facebook at Harvard University in the US.

He also said he didn't find the move from being a rock star to writing the score - his first - too difficult, adding: "A side of my music with Nine Inch Nails was going instrumental so it was not a huge leap or stretch to try this.

"The biggest challenge was working with a picture. David Fincher knew exactly what he wanted. It was one of the best experiences of my life from start to finish."

Also at the Oscars, held in Los Angeles, singer and songwriter Randy Newman picked up the Best Original Song trophy for his track 'We Belong Together' from the film 'Toy Story 3'.

Jessie J is 'obsessed' with Nicki Minaj

The English 'Do It Like a Dude' singer is a huge fan of the 'Check it Out' rapper and said she felt "honoured" when Nicki praised her.
She told MTV: "What can you say when someone like Nicki Minaj says that they're in love with you? I am obsessed with her, I think that she is a superstar.

"To even have someone like her to take time out of her busy schedule to know someone like me is just an honour. I love you too, Nicki."

Jessie, 22, said she would love to work with Nicki, as well as rapper Drake.

She said: "I think that Drake is amazing and I think that Nicki Minaj is stupidly sick - I would be honoured if either of them wanted to work with me."

Jessie also today (24.02.111) confirmed she is bisexual, addressing the issue in an interview and on twitter.

She told British radio show 'In Demand': "I've never denied it. Whoopie doo guys, yes, I've dated girls and I've dated boys - get over it. It's not a secret."

She later tweeted: "For all the people congratulating me on 'coming out' or confirming I'm 'bi' lol-I have NEVER hid my sexuality. I love who I love. I will never label my sexuality. If its a boy its a boy if its a girl its a girl.(sic)

"Whatever I do in life SOMEONE somewhere will HATE it. Be it my music, my face, my clothes, my hair, my bum lol. It Is what it is. Let the haters hate. Live for the moment (sic)."

Big Head Blues Club to Release '100 Years of Robert Jonson' Tribute CD

May 8th, 2011 marks the 100-year anniversary of blues legend Robert Johnson’s birthday. In celebration of the most influential bluesman that ever lived, the Big Head Blues Club – an ad-hoc collaboration featuring Big Head Todd and The Monsters and special guests Hubert Sumlin, Honeyboy Edwards, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcolm – has been touring coast to coast playing the material of Johnson. The tour, which has been garnering rave reviews, wraps up on March 8, just after the studio album, titled 100 Years of Robert Johnson, hits the streets on March 1, 2011 via Ryko/Big Records.
100 Years of Robert Johnson is a stirring collection featuring 10 potent interpretations of some of the most vital and durable music of the past century. In addition to the above-mentioned artists, 100 Years of Robert Johnson includes performances by blues greats B.B. King and Charlie Musselwhite, as well as keeper of the blues flame Ruthie Foster. The album was recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, and produced by Grammy award winning blues producer Chris Goldsmith (Blind Boys of Alabama).
For Todd Park Mohr, who founded Big Head Todd and The Monsters with Rob Squires (bass) and Brian Nevin (drums) nearly a quarter-century ago, the project has served to re-introduce him to the iconic music of Johnson, whose songs provided many of the pioneering blues-rock bands—Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, Cream, Canned Heat, etc.—with some of their most popular material.
100 Years of Robert Johnson features several inspired takes on Johnson’s best known compositions. For Mohr and Goldsmith, the challenge in recording the tribute was to give new voice to Johnson’s music, to avoid copying the countless cover versions already extant. “In so many of the takes on Robert’s stuff, you don’t get the depth of emotion that’s in the lyrics and in Robert’s voice. That’s one thing that Chris and the band and my voice were able to bring to it. Chris had great ideas about how to represent the stuff, and all the musicians were just so good at what they did, the unique arrangements just came naturally.”

Levon Helm Drummer

The longtime drummer for The Band, Levon Helm wore many musical hats throughout his long career, including multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, singer, impressario, studio owner, studio engineer and producer. He grew up working on a farm in Arkansas; his first instrument was guitar, which he began playing at ag eight, but after seeing the F.S. Walcott Rabbits Foot Minstrels, he decided to switch to drums. As a youth, Helm listened to the music of the area, including radio broadcasts of the Grand Ole Opry and the blues and R&B shows on WLAC, a clear-channel station out of Nashville that became legendary in the development of rhythm & blues and early rock & roll. Accompanied by his sister Linda on washboard bass, he played various fairs and civic club shows until forming his first group, the Jungle Bush Beaters, while in high school.

After seeing an Elvis Presley concert, Helm became keenly interested in rock & roll and musicians like Bo Diddley. Eventually, he moved to Memphis, where he began sitting in with Conway Twitty. Later, he was discovered by a fellow Arkansan, rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins, who asked the 17-year-old Helm to join the Hawks, his backing band. The group soon relocated to Toronto, where they'd heard there was a burgeoning scene for their kind of music. In 1959, Hawkins signed to Roulette Records, where he and the Hawks cut a pair of hit records right out of the gate as "Forty Days" and "Mary Lou," which went on to sell in excess of 700,000 copies.

In the early '60s in Toronto, Helm and Hawkins recruited the rest of the members of the group that would become the Band, adding guitarist Robbie Robertson, pianist Richard Manuel, organist Garth Hudson and bassist Rick Danko to the lineup. After numerous road trips with Hawkins, the group grew tired of the singer's abrasive manner, and they reformed as Levon and the Hawks, later changing their name to the Canadian Squires for the purpose of recording two singles. Shortly after, they changed their name back to the Hawks. In the mid-'60s,
Bob Dylan, decided to electrify his sound, and wanted the Hawks to be his backing band. After putting up with too many boos at Dylan's newly electrified shows in 1965, Helm decided he'd had enough, and went back to Arkansas, thinking he would leave the music business behind him forever.

But Helm returned to action in mid-1967, where the Hawks (since renamed simply the Band) began working on Music From Big Pink, the first in a string of classic records which made them one of rock's most legendary acts. After the Band's famed 1976 farewell performance, dubbed The Last Waltz, he cut his 1977 debut solo album Levon Helm and the RCO All Stars, followed a year later by his self-titled sophomore effort. In 1980 he recorded American Son, while another eponymously-titled effort was released in 1982. The Band reformed in 1983 without Robertson; following Manuel's 1986 suicide, the remaining trio released 1993's Jericho, recorded at Helm's home studio in Woodstock, New York. That same year, Helm published his autobiography, This Wheel's on Fire, co-authored with Stephen Davis. The Band's bluesy High on the Hog followed in 1996 and Jubilation in 1998. The late '90s (and into the next decade) found Helm still making music in a new blues band called Levon Helm and the Barn Burners, with his daughter Amy on keyboards and vocals, guitarist Pat O'Shea, lead vocalist and harmonica player Chris O'Leary and upright bassist Frankie Ingrao.

John Bonham Drummer

John Bonham ist the most influental Rock Drummer of all times.

Describing the style of John Bonham's drumming instantly conjurs up visions of the thunderous power he created. His contributions to rock music were revolutionary, and his talent unmatched and irreplaceable. You can only imagine Jimmy Page's reaction to first seeing him in 1968, ending his search for a new drummer to form a new band, the New Yardbirds (later renamed Led Zeppelin.)

A childhood friend of Robert Plant, they played together in the 'Band of Joy', resulting in local gigs and a few studio demos. At first, Bonham was reluctant to join the well-known guitarist because of a steady gig with Tim Rose. But... the rest of history...

As John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have all stated many times, Led Zeppelin wouldn't have been half as good without him. Along with JPJ, they provided the solid foundation and backbone of the band, which made it all possible. Live performances truly showcased his abilities during the numerous improvised jams throughout every concert and of course his famous "Moby Dick" drum solo; reaching a half-hour in length at times! Immitators are usually left frustrated, since Bonham made it look so easy - not only in his playing but also in the incredible drum sound he acheived. His legendary right foot (on his bass pedal) and lightning-fast triplets were his instant trademark. He later refined his style from the hard skin-bashing approach to a more delicate wrist controlled one - which produced an even more powerful & louder sound with less effort.

His tragic passing on September 25th, 1980 immortalized his legacy forever. His only son, Jason proudly continues the tradition. Daughter Zoe also has a strong interest in music and is experimenting with her own original material. John's sister Deborah is a highly acclaimed & talented singer.

Cozy Powell Drummer

Cozy wrote the following himself when the site first went online. He died in a car crash in April, 1998 before the bio was finished.

Cozy Powell is one of the most prolific drummers in the business. His CV runs like a Who's Who of rock, with stints as a fully paid up member of Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Whitesnake, M.S.G. and the ELP spin-off Emerson, Lake, & Powell. Then there are those legendary guest appearances - with everyone from Donovan to Roger Daltrey, Jack Bruce to Jeff Beck and Gary Moore to Brian May.

His career not only spans three decades, it's also one of the most diverse in rock. In the 1960's, Cozy was a member of the Ace Kefford Stand; in the 70's he was a session drummer for Mickie Most's RAK label, which made Cozy a household name with the Dance With the Devil single; and in 1991, he turned up on Comic Relief's No 1 single, "The Stonk", with comedians Hale & Pace!

Since then Cozy joined Brian May on a Jimi Hendrix tribute album, and supported the legendary Peter Green on his comeback. Most recently, sessions with Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest), Brian May (new album) and Yngwie Malmsteen, the last two with tours, have seen Cozy Powell back to his busiest and perhaps, his best.

Nick D'Virgilio Drummer

Name: Nick D'Virgilio
Band: Spock's Beard
Date of Birth: November 12, 1968

You only need to listen to one or two tracks to conclude that Spock's Beard is not your everyday, garden-variety progressive rock band. Then again, Nick D'Virgilio is not your everyday drummer. His ever-growing talent and skills have earned him a number of prominent gigs including Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Sheryl Crow, Kevin Gilbert, Eric Burdon, and this year, a second nationwide tour with the reunited Tears For Fears.
"I started playing drums when I was three and I did pretty much nothing but play music from that point on, except for some baseball and golf in between there. My brother taught me how to play guitar when I was seven years old, and I kind of just copied records from that point on as I had been doing with my drums," says Nick of his early years. "I wanted to be Donny Osmond. My parents took me to Las Vegas to see the Osmonds at the Tropicana when I was four (laughs). I bought my first Kiss records when I was six or seven then my brother turn me on to Zeppelin and Genesis and that changed everything."
It certainly did. Nick, a self-taught musician who started drumming at age three attended the Dick Grove School of Music at age 17. Over the years, he has also fortified his style and ability by training with the likes Dave Garabaldi, Chad Wakerman, Richard Wilson, Chuck Silverman and Roy Burns.
Nick’s band, the critically acclaimed Spock's Beard, formed in 1991 when he played in a blues jam in L.A. and met band mates Neal and Alan Morse. "We happened to sit in with the band together. Played some blues thing. After that we got to talking and hooked up from there really. I went to Neal's place and got a tape of some songs he had been working on which happened to be the whole The Light record. He and Al had been talking about starting a band. They asked me and off we went."
Seven studio albums later, Spock's Beard is still regarded as one of the most influential and innovative progressive rock bands in the world.

Hip hop music Wiki

Hip hop music is a musical genre that developed as part of hip hop culture, and is defined by four key stylistic elements: rapping, DJing/scratching, sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing. Hip hop began in the South Bronx of New York City in the 1970s. The term rap is often used synonymously with hip hop, but hip hop also denotes the practices of an entire subculture.

Rapping, also referred to as MCing or emceeing, is a vocal style in which the artist speaks lyrically, in rhyme and verse, generally to an instrumental or synthesized beat. Beats, almost always in 4/4 time signature, can be created by sampling and/or sequencing portions of other songs by a producer.[2] They also incorporate synthesizers, drum machines, and live bands. Rappers may write, memorize, or improvise their lyrics and perform their works a cappella or to a beat.

Creation of the term hip hop is often credited to Keith Cowboy, rapper with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.[3] However, Lovebug Starski, Keith Cowboy, and DJ Hollywood used the term when the music was still known as disco rap. It is believed that Cowboy created the term while teasing a friend who had just joined the U.S. Army, by scat singing the words "hip/hop/hip/hop" in a way that mimicked the rhythmic cadence of marching soldiers.[3] Cowboy later worked the "hip hop" cadence into a part of his stage performance, which was quickly used by other artists such as The Sugarhill Gang in "Rapper's Delight".[3]

Universal Zulu Nation founder Afrika Bambaataa is credited with first using the term to describe the subculture in which the music belonged; although it is also suggested that it was a derogatory term to describe the type of music.[4] The first use of the term in print was in The Village Voice,[5] by Steven Hager, later author of a 1984 history of hip hop.

The Strokes claim their new album is 'cooler' than any other artist's work

The group are preparing for the release of long-awaited LP 'Angles' ' their first since 2006's 'First Impressions of Earth' ' and have promised fans they won't be disappointed by the record.

Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. said: ' don't think fans will be disappointed. It sounds like a modern Strokes.

'We've been doing this for 10 years now and we all understand ourselves a bit better. This record is testament to our instinct and survival.

'F**k, it's the coolest thing I've heard in a long time.'

Recording the album was surrounded by rumours of a rift between frontman Julian Casablancas and the rest of the band, and while Albert admits the recording studio could be tense at times, he is still delighted by what they have created.

He told Q magazine: 'Making this album had moments of great frustration. Julian was away finishing his stuff, there was a lot of back and forth. But there were also moments of utter joy.

'That's The Strokes' chemistry. For some reason when these five crazy motherf***ers come together with all their frustrations it manages to create something really unique that people groove on. I'm really proud of this album, it's an explosion of wonderment.'

Justin Bieber expresses his desire for funny girls

The teen singing sensation ' who has been romantically linked with Selena Gomez - has female fans all around the world but in order to catch his attention any potential girlfriends must have a good sense of humour, as well as pretty eyes and a good smile. He said: ' like girls with nice, pretty eyes and a nice smile. I like girls that are funny because I like to laugh and joke around.'

While Justin is grateful for all the attention, he admits sometimes it gets too much and he is left fearing for the safety of himself, his entourage and his fans.

He explained: 'At a concert in New York last year they expected 1,000 girls and 10,000 showed up, so the security wasn't ready for it. It was a security hazard for the kids 'cos they were pushing up against the glass, so it was really bad. The worst time, though, was definitely in New Zealand where my mom got trampled.'

Last April, the 16-year-old star's mother, Patti Mallette, was knocked over by fans - who also stole his hat ' when they mobbed him at an airport.

At the time, Justin tweeted about the incident, saying: "Finally got to New Zealand last night. The airport was crazy. Not happy that someone stole my hat and knocked down my mama. Come on people."

Doane Perry

I began playing piano at age 7 and continued until age 11 when the Beatles came along and changed everything. I discovered the possibility, however unlikely that might have been, of young girls chasing me down the street if I took up the drums. So it began.

When I was 14 I began working weekends with my own band in New York and continued doing that until finishing High School at 17, apart from a brief detour as a Baskin - Robbins ice cream vendor. At 18 I turned professional despite continuing school which ultimately created a serious conflict (with the school primarily) as I was often traveling. This resulted in an either/or decision and I opted for music full time.

I began doing everything I could to gain a wider musical background which ended up being an interesting combination of live and studio work which spanned an unusual cross section of music occurring in New York at that time. Rock, Pop, Jazz, Orchestral, Dance, R&B, Folk, TV and Film scores and every ethnic music imaginable was flourishing at that time in New York. It was a wonderful time to be a young musician.

Over the years I have had the great good fortune to work with a wide variety of gifted artists and bands - well known and not so well known - but all of whom I have learned something from or at the very least enjoyed myself.

Some of these artists are, in no particular order: Lou Reed, Bette Midler, Teo Macero and his Big Band, Phyllis Hyman, Todd Rundgren, Baird Hersey and the Year of the Ear, Brenda Russell, Dave Mason, Michel Colombier, Peter Allen, Pat Benatar, Jim Messina, Martha and the Vandellas, Peter Cetera, Dweezil Zappa, Stan Getz, Kitaro and Jon Anderson, Fairport Convention, Laura Branigan, Dionne Warwick, Liza Minelli, Patty Scialfa, Vonda Shepard, Charles Aznavour, Jess Roden, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Bill Champlin, Marc Shaiman, Freda Payne, Jeffrey Osbourne, Diane Warren, Elliot Murphy, Gary U.S.Bonds, Maxus, Hunter/Dragon, Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Clapton, Sharon O'Neil, Jenny Morris, Joey Dee and the Starlighters, Tom Pacheco, Pat Alger and Artie Traum, Adrian Gurvitz, Gary Brooker, Katey Sagal, Debra Holland, Magellan, The Rivets, Scout, Michael Ruff, Marc Cohn, Patty Scialfa, Barnes & Barnes, David Schwartz, James McVay, David Foster, Michael Omartian, Stewart Levine and Paul Rothchild.

Recently I have been working on an album project with a very gifted young artist named Rachel Hart, a tribute record to Emerson, Lake and Palmer (due out Winter '98), a new and very good offbeat television series entitled "Maximum Bob"with Beau Bridges and a new movie with Walter Matthau and Carol Burnett entitled "The Marriage Fool". I am also working on writing new material with Vince DiCola for the next " Thread" record,
which we hope will be finished by late spring of '99.

Other pastimes I enjoy are swimming, which I will do every day when the weather is nice and walking my dogs Xam and Molly. They seem to enjoy swimming as well although we have recently discovered they prefer the ocean over the pool much to the great relief of our friends who like to come over and swim.

Reading is probably my absolute favorite pastime followed by an extremely hot curry dinner. Sometimes I can enjoy them both at the same time. Oh Joy! Unfortunately my wife Heather does not share my enthusiasm for hot dishes although she quite happily and capably grows and cooks a wide variety of peppers for me from our garden, which occasionally the wildlife or the gardeners enjoy first!

Al Jackson Jr.

Al Jackson, Jr. was the excellent drummer who kept Booker T. & the MG's in line, both on their own recordings as well as on dozens of sessions for artists contracted to Hi and Stax Records. Born in Memphis in 1934, he came up with producer Willie Mitchell at the Hi label and played on dozens of hits by Al Green and Ann Peebles, among others. Keyboard player Booker T. Jones, who had played in Mitchell's band as well, considered Jackson the best drummer in Memphis. In 1962, he persuaded Jackson to join Stax Records, where the pair joined guitarist Steve Cropper and (later) bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn to form Booker T. & the MG's, arguably the best house band in history.

The group played on virtually every recording by Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Carla and Rufus Thomas, Eddie Floyd, and William Bell during the mid- to late '60s. Booker T. & the MG's were hitmakers as well, thanks to instrumental tracks like "Green Onions," "Hip Hug-Her," "Hang 'Em High," and "Time Is Tight."
By 1971, however, popularity drove the group apart as both Cropper and Jones spent much time away from Memphis. During the early '70s, Jackson spent time working as both a session drummer and producer, appearing on albums by Eric Clapton, Donny Hathaway, Freddie King, Herbie Mann, the Soul Children, Shirley Brown, and Rance Allen. In 1975, Booker T. & the MG's re-formed and began recording a reunion album. Later that year, however, Jackson was tragically shot and killed in his home; reports conflict on whether the culprit was a burglar or his wife.
