Aaliyah
It's always a shame when a beautiful girl is taken from the world too soon, so this entry is tinged with a touch of regret. The lovely Aaliyah made her musical debut at the age of 15 with Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, a blockbuster album filled with modern soul ballads that captured listeners to the tune of 8 million copies sold. Her mentor during the process was singer R. Kelly, who also had a deeper interest in the young songstress - Kelly married her in 1994, despite being seventeen years her senior. Their relationship would quickly dissolve, and Aaliyah would go on to even greater fame with the help of producer Timbaland and rapper Missy Elliott, both of whom were relative unknowns at the time. In 2000, she starred opposite Jet Li in Romeo Must Die, and was signed to appear in the Matrix sequels before a plane crash took her life in 2001.
