The violin is by no means an instrument for everyone. It is also not the easiest of instruments you could pick to learn. Just why would anyone then want to learn to play the violin if there were other easier choices? Simply because it can be difficult but that makes it all the more rewarding when you finally master and are able to play songs on the violin. Make sure you know your instrument before you begin learning how to play it. Memorize all the correct names for the different parts of the instrument, such as the bridge, neck, tuning pegs, sound holes, bow and strings. You can't expect to be able to play an instrument well if you haven't even memorized the different parts of it. Take the time to make sure you know the names by heart before you even begin to learn how to play any songs. This will make sure you are committed to learning how to play the violin properly and you stand a much better chance of mastering the violin.
The next step is to be sure you know how to hold a violin correctly. Many people find holding a violin difficult, as it is unlike any other musical instrument. If you are just starting out, you may find it easier to hold your violin like you would a banjo. This makes it much easier to begin playing the violin by plucking the strings before you move onto using the bow. When you feel comfortable and are able to play it in this manner, switch to holding it the correct way positioned under your chin.
Finally, you'll need to remember the names of the strings on the violin. The strings are from low to high and are G, D, A and E. Learning how to play the violin is by no means easy when compared to other instruments, but you will find it to be extremely rewarding if you have the patience and take the time to master it.
Finally, make sure you violin lessons go at the speed which is suitable for you. You will find it near impossible to learn the violin by yourself, so it is strongly recommended that you hire a tutor who can teach you how to play the violin. We all learn at a different pace, so make sure that the lessons aren't going too fast that you feel frustrated and unable to keep up but at the same time make sure they aren't going so slow that you feel as though you aren't learning anything.
Learning how to play the violin can be rewarding but it can also be extremely rewarding. Take the time to know your instrument correctly, start with small steps and have the patience and knowledge of knowing that it will take time to be able to master the violin. This will put you on the path to one day being able to play the violin well.
